This week is the week of Halloween so I probably should have started this at the beginning of the month but LIFE TAKES OVER as we all know. In celebration of my FAVORITE HOLIDAY of the year, I'm going to flash back over the next few days to my favorite Halloween and spooky inspired sessions including this maternity session I did in Spring of 2020.
Spring of 2020 was a nerve wracking time for us all. Especially for expecting mamas. But this fabulous lady wanted to embrace the chaos with a "sign of the times". When she first contacted me, she described she and her husband as 'spooky 24/7" and that she had this idea and was a bit nervous to ask me if I was willing to photograph a styled maternity shoot with her prop. I was fully on board with "I have this plague mask ya see."
We did this session at Rockwood Reservation on the Lime Kiln Trail in Wildwood Missouri, a suburb west of St. Louis. Lots of people out on a spring day walking. We got a few strange looks but most people laughed at how appropriate the plague mask was for what we were collectively going through. HAHA!
This is typically outside of my norm of sunlit fields and boho gowns but I'm a new wave kid at heart so I was ready to break out of my box and have a little fun in a new way that STILL felt true to my aesthetic.
The use of crystals and a little vintage editing gave this a bit of a magically spooky, beautiful effect in different ways. Absolutely LOVE!
